We are thrilled to reflect on the wonderful success of our Flamenco Dance and Rhythm workshop, led by the incredible Rosa María Fernández.
Over the course of ten Saturdays, from February 17th to April 20th 2024, women gathered at Maison Béck in Sanem, Luxembourg, to immerse themselves in the passionate and expressive world of flamenco.
The experience was simply joyful, filled with rhythm, movement and deep emotional connection.
A Unique Journey Through Flamenco
Flamenco is more than just dance—it's an art form that weaves together music, rhythm and personal expression. Our workshop offered participants the opportunity to explore this rich tradition, guided by the expertise of Rosa María Fernández, a seasoned flamenco artist, dancer and choreographer with over 12 years of experience.
Each session was designed to be a journey of discovery, starting with a technical warm-up for the feet and body, followed by a didactic approach to rhythm using palmas (hand clapping), body percussion and more.
Rosa María's teaching also emphasised understanding musical structure, allowing participants to connect deeply with the music and rhythms of flamenco. But perhaps the most special aspect of the workshop was the focus on improvisation and the relationship with emotions.
About Rosa María Fernández
Rosa María’s extensive background in flamenco is truly inspiring! Trained in Peru, Spain, Italy and Luxembourg, she has not only mastered the art of flamenco, but has also dedicated herself to teaching and sharing this beautiful tradition.
In addition to her dance expertise, Rosa María’s training in Digital Percussion at the Conservatoire Luxembourg added a unique dimension to the workshop, enriching the participants' understanding of rhythm and music.
A Part of the LEILaW Project
This flamenco workshop was part of the LEILaW project (Listen, Exchange, Inform on Law for Women), an initiative co-funded by the European Commission. The project aims to empower women through education, culture, and community, and this workshop was a shining example of that mission in action.
