The Story-Telling Workshop October 2023
We are happy to share with you the results of Douri’s new Story-Telling Workshop that took place between 6-10th October 2023 in Foyer Bascharage.
In a collaborative effort between Douri, the Fondation Sommer, and Lebanese artist Walid El-Masri, we recently conducted our Story-Telling Workshop, engaging the participation of 7 children.
During the workshop, the children acquired various means of self-expression, throughout writing, painting, colouring, singing, dancing, and playing.
They finally wrote their own stories, illustrated them and brought them to life through performance with the assistance of a marionette.
Walid El-Masri is a Lebanese artist who was born in Syria in 1979. He initially trained in mosaic art before enrolling at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus.
In 2005 he graduated, and later attended the Summer Academy at Darat Al Funun in Jordan.
As a recognized painter who was based in Damascus, Walid El Masri regularly exhibited his work in Syria, London, Paris, Lebanon, Egypt, and the Gulf countries.
Having settled in France since 2011, he continues to create powerful paintings and drawings.
Walid El-Masri also participated in collective exhibitions, such as at the Busan Museum of Art in South Korea (2014), the Institute of the Arab World in Paris (2014 and 2018), the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations (MUCEM) in Marseille (2014), and the Institute of Islamic Cultures in Paris (2020).
